Tomato and Basil Salad

imageI am going to a summer potluck today and wanted to bring a dish to pass. I decided to choose something where all of the ingredients are sold in the grocery store at room temperature. That way I don’t have to worry about keeping it cold.

Tomato and Basil Salad

Here’s what I gather to feed 4 people, though for today I doubled it:

1 small shallot, thinly sliced
4-5 medium heirloom tomatoes
6 medium basil leaves, cut in chiffonade
Fleur de sel (sea salt)
Freshly ground pepper
Extra virgin olive oil
Aged balsamic vinegar

Gather ingredients…. and start chopping!
You can marinate the sliced shallots in your favorite aged balsamic for at least 15 minutes to mellow their bite.

Combine sliced tomatoes with the shallots and a splash of olive oil, a sprinkle of fleur de sel, a few grinds of freshly ground black pepper, and the basil.
